MOMENT OF ENCOUNTER DEVOTIONAL
THE DISCIPLES NEVER KNEW THE STORM HAD EARS UNTIL JESUS SPOKE
Text:
Mark 4:39
"And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."
The disciples had witnessed many miracles, but this night they learned something extraordinary: storms have ears.
The classroom was a boat, the lecturer was Jesus, and the lesson was simple—some battles don't end until Jesus speaks.
The storm was raging. The boat was filling with water. Experienced fishermen were running out of ideas. Then Jesus stood up and spoke. Instantly, the storm obeyed.
That was when they discovered that the storm they feared was not beyond the authority of their Master.
WHEN LIFE CHANGES THE WEATHER
Nobody schedules trouble into their diary.
Yet life sometimes changes weather without notice.
One day business is booming; the next day customers vanish like morning dew.
One day the home is peaceful; the next day misunderstandings are holding family meetings.
One day the doctor says, "Everything is fine"; the next day another test is required.
The disciples entered the boat with Jesus and still encountered a storm.
His presence does not guarantee the absence of storms; it guarantees His presence in them.
PROFESSIONAL STORMS OF LIFE
Some storms arrive with full force.
Financial storms can make a rich man suddenly begin to calculate the price of sachet water.
Marital storms can turn lovebirds into courtroom lawyers.
Academic storms can make examination questions look like coded messages from another planet.
Ministerial storms can make a pastor wonder whether members came for worship or to test his patience.
Yet every storm has one weakness—it must bow to God.
STOP ANNOUNCING THE STORM TO EVERYONE EXCEPT JESUS
Many people have informed everybody about their problems except the One who can solve them.
Friends know.
Neighbors know.
Social media knows.
Even strangers know.
But have you truly taken the matter to Jesus?
The disciples struggled until they finally cried, "Master!"
Prayer is not a religious exercise. It is a spiritual emergency line.
What is too heavy for you is never too heavy for God.
THE VALLEY OF BACA IS NOT YOUR DESTINATION
Psalm 84:6 speaks of the Valley of Baca—the valley of tears.
Notice the Bible says passing through.
It does not say settling there.
Your present pain is not your permanent address.
The storm will not last forever.
The chapter will change.
The night will eventually surrender to morning.
THE STORM WAS LOUD, BUT JESUS WAS LOUDER
The waves were shouting.
Fear was preaching.
Anxiety was conducting choir rehearsal.
Yet one word from Jesus silenced everything.
Cancer recognizes His voice.
Delay recognizes His voice.
Barrenness recognizes His voice.
Failure recognizes His voice.
Situations that ignore men cannot ignore Jesus.
WHEN JESUS SPEAKS
The wind did not argue.
The sea did not negotiate.
The storm simply obeyed.
The same Jesus still speaks today.
He speaks peace into troubled homes.
He speaks healing into sick bodies.
He speaks provision into empty hands.
He speaks hope into discouraged hearts.
One word from Him can change what years of struggle could not change.
CLOSING THOUGHT
The disciples never knew the storm had ears until Jesus spoke.
Perhaps your financial storm is waiting for His voice.
Perhaps your health challenge is waiting for His voice.
Perhaps your family situation is waiting for His voice.
Do not magnify the storm.
Report it to Jesus.
Do not worship the problem.
Wake the Master.
When Jesus speaks, even the storm that came to sink your boat becomes the platform for your testimony.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, every storm confronting my life, family, ministry, health, and destiny, hear the voice of the Master today. Speak Your peace into every troubled situation and turn my Valley of Baca into a valley of testimony, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
Golden Quote
"The disciples thought they were trapped in a storm, until they discovered the storm was trapped in a boat with Jesus."
