MOMENT OF ENCOUNTER DEVOTIONAL

WHEN HEAVEN OPENS THE ATTENDANCE REGISTER

(The Tragedy of Being Busy Doing Nothing)

📖 Text: Matthew 25:14–30

🔑 Key Verse:

"His lord said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant..." — Matthew 25:26

INTRODUCTION: THE MINISTRY OF DOING NOTHING

One of the fastest-growing ministries in the modern church is not evangelism, discipleship, prayer, or missions.

It is the Ministry of Doing Nothing.

Its members are everywhere. They occupy strategic seats, attend every convention, collect every church calendar, know every prophetic slogan, and can quote church history from Genesis to Revelation. Yet, if Heaven were to investigate their Kingdom productivity, angels would need magnifying glasses to find evidence.

Some have become professional spectators in God's vineyard. They sit, watch, criticize, analyze, supervise, advise, and evaluate everybody else's work—except their own.

They are spiritual referees who never enter the field.

The tragedy is that many mistake ordination certificates for reward vouchers.

But Heaven has never promised crowns for titles.

GOD DOES NOT REWARD NAME TAGS

One day Jesus will return carrying rewards.

Notice carefully: He is not bringing rewards for positions.

He did not say:

“Behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me to reward every bishop according to his collar.”

Nor did He say:

“Every prophet according to his title.”

Rather:

"To give every man according as his WORK shall be." (Revelation 22:12)

Heaven keeps records of works, not wardrobes.

The question will not be:

“How many titles did you collect?”

But:

“What did you do with what I gave you?”

THE MAN WHO WAS PUNISHED FOR DOING NOTHING

The servant in Matthew 25 was not a thief.

He was not immoral.

He did not join a cult.

He did not attack the master.

His crime was astonishingly simple:

He did absolutely nothing.

He buried his talent and preserved it perfectly.

In modern language, he could proudly say:

“I didn't cause trouble.”

“I minded my business.”

“I stayed in my lane.”

“I avoided stress.”

Yet the master called him wicked and lazy.

Why?

Because in God's Kingdom, inactivity is not neutrality.

It is disobedience.

A seed that is never planted can never produce a harvest.

A gift that is never used becomes an accusation.

A calling that is never pursued becomes a wasted opportunity.

THE COMEDY OF MODERN CHRISTIANITY

Some believers are waiting for a divine announcement before they serve.

“Lord, should I evangelize?”

The Lord says, “I already commanded it.”

“Lord, should I pray?”

The Lord says, “Pray without ceasing.”

“Lord, should I help in church?”

The Lord says, “What exactly are you waiting for?”

Others have spent so much time "waiting on God" that God may be wondering if they are waiting for another God.

The Kingdom is not advanced by holy inactivity.

The Church grows because somebody prays, somebody gives, somebody teaches, somebody visits, somebody preaches, somebody serves, and somebody sacrifices.

HEAVEN CELEBRATES WORKERS

God notices the evangelist winning souls.

He notices the intercessor praying through the night.

He notices the usher standing faithfully at the door.

He notices the teacher discipling believers.

He notices the giver supporting missions.

He notices the cleaner sweeping the sanctuary when nobody is watching.

Men celebrate positions.

God celebrates faithfulness.

The greatest person in Heaven's record book may not be the one with the biggest title, but the one who served with the greatest sincerity.

SYMPTOMS OF THE "DO-NOTHING" DOCTRINE

A believer may be infected when:

✓ They want recognition without responsibility.

✓ They enjoy church benefits but avoid church burdens.

✓ They have excuses for every assignment.

✓ They criticize workers while refusing to work.

✓ They measure spirituality by appearance rather than impact.

✓ They have served God for twenty years but have twenty minutes of actual Kingdom labour.

PROPHETIC INSIGHT

Many believers are preparing résumés for men while neglecting their records before God.

Remember this:

When Heaven opens the attendance register, it will not ask who wore the finest robe.

It will ask who worked in the vineyard.

You can be known on earth and forgotten in Heaven.

You can be applauded by men and still have an empty reward account before God.

The safest place is not merely in the church.

The safest place is actively serving in the church.

PRAYER

O Lord, deliver me from spiritual laziness and religious complacency. Let the fire of Kingdom service burn afresh in my heart. Make me fruitful, faithful, diligent, and productive in Your vineyard. May I never bury my gifts, neglect my calling, or waste my opportunities. Let my life bring glory to You and profit to Your Kingdom, in Jesus' name. Amen.

PERSONAL CHARGE

Stop counting titles.

Start counting souls.

Stop collecting positions.

Start pursuing purpose.

Stop waiting for perfect conditions.

Start serving with what you have.

When Heaven opens the register, may your name appear among the faithful workers and not among the talented spectators.

For there is no crown for doing nothing.

ThereThere is reward for faithful service.

🕊️ Stay active. Stay useful. Stay fruitful.
